 When
camping in bear country, it is a good idea to use metal food lockers
– where available in the campgrounds. Best of all, be self-sufficient
and carry your food in a portable, bear-resistant food canister
or odour proof barrier bags. This will protect your food and help
keep bears safe. The following are only some of the many products
available. Links to order sites have been provided for your convenience.
We do not endorse one product over another. A merhant
list is also provided by the U.S. National Park Service.
In many parks, Bear (Animal) Resistant Food/Garbage Containers
are required to store food, lawfully taken fish, and garbage.
They must be used whenever the Guide or Client will not be maintaining
direct physical control over these items (i.e., food or fish must
be within arm's reach of the guide or client and may not be left
unattended).
***Ice chests and/or coolers are NOT considered to be Approved
Bear (Animal) Resistant Food/Garbage Containers.***
The U.S. National Park Service inspects and approves containers.

Full approval is not given until the container has passed 3 months
